Kathy Beymer and Heather Crosby met and worked together in Corporate America for a while and then one of us escaped. During the next year, Heather was having painting exhibitions and venturing into various artistic outlets and Kathy was being innovative and creative by putting her 10 years of 4-H to good use on her 1960's sewing machine. As fate would have it, our creative paths crossed. Let's skip to the good part.
One night we met up at Cesar's "Home of the Killer Margarita" for what else but a "killer" margarita (or two) and ended up in an enthusiastic discussion about wanting to carry handbags that are unlike anything we see around Chicago. "There was an irresistible handbag to be created for each individual personality." We waxed-poetic about well-crafted handmade handbags that are completely unique, unexpected, original and can't be ignored.
So we decided to make them. We found bewitching, eye-catching and nostalgic vintage and recycled materials, sewed 53 handbags in 3 months and had our first show in December 2002.
And we're just getting started.
