Silver Spring, MD

Professional graphic designer, insatiable imagination, Kathy's sew-the-right-way crash-course.

Live music, pink & yellow, my brother, the Ramones, bluegrass, roadtrips, tequila, jeans, sewing, Round the Bend farm, painting, Elvis Presley, The Hideout, laughing, Cesar's, Chicago...

There's no denying it, our childhood experiences play a big part in making us who we are. Whether it's Mom's 1970's kitchen, a family trip to the mountains, the "little kids" table at Thanksgiving or a broken-in pair of pink Chucks, tapping into fond memories is important for us when we're designing. Nothing feels as familiar as your baby blue glitter unicorn t-shirt. You felt special in it. Unstoppable. We like to bring those feelings back and mix them up in unexpected and unique ways. |

Terre Haute, IN

My mom's home-ec teaching, sewing Barbie Doll clothes in elementary school (see above), 10 years of 4-H (yes, really), perfectionism, love of usability and usefulness.

Sugar, airplanes, making things, cutting veggies into even pieces, sewing, NY, Halloween,
football, gardens, EW, margaritas, warm days...

My grandmother had a new linen calendar on her kitchen wall each year. Now I'm making vintage calendars into modern handbags. I love that about Carry...tying the old with the new in unique, whimsical ways. It's about being original and expressing your personality. |
